Love story ka drama: runaway bride comes home with police in tow

Marriage is made in heaven, or so they say. But what about those marriages that forced, be it man or woman, young or old?

A bride, who was found missing five days after her marriage, emerged two days later with a complaint that she lodged with the department of women and child welfare against her husband and her maternal uncle. The groom’s family also lodged a complaint about the “missing bride”. Behind the drama, a love story came to light.

Eighteen-year-old Latha (name changed) from Hanubalu Hobli’s Hullemane Hadi village of Sakaleshpura taluk in the Hassan district Karnataka had tied the knot with a 32-year-old man on December 6.

As the bride’s father and mother died long back, her maternal uncle Nilraj took care of her. After the marriage, she went missing from her in-laws’ house and after two days, she complained to the police that the marriage was conducted forcefully.

On Saturday, the department of women and child welfare officials counseled both the families.

“This marriage was not conducted forcefully. The girl had agreed to marry him. Then only we arranged the wedding ceremony. After the engagement, the groom gifted a new mobile phone to her. Both were happy. Now she has lodged the complaint against me,” said Nilraj.

“The young woman left the husband’s house at midnight and went in a stranger’s car. The police should identify who they are,” said Nelraj in his statement to the police.

During counseling, the woman has confessed to her love for the young man of Mudigere in the Chikkamagaluru district. The woman has now been sent to Sakaleshpura women’s rehabilitation center.

“Five days after her marriage, she mixed sleeping pills in the food and gave it to the (in-laws’) family members. After everyone fell asleep, she fled the home. We have lost Rs 5 lakh,” alleged her husband.
