Priests of the historical Sri Yoganarasimha Swamy Temple has taken an ugly turn, with one accusing the other of downloading porn videos on his Smartphone.
Narayana Bhattar, a resident of Melukote and priest of the temple, lodged a police complaint saying his co-priest Bhashyam Swamiji, along with two others, had assaulted him inside the temple the day before. Bhattar said they had also snatched his mobile phone, worth Rs 16,000. The two priests have had disagreements over who is entitled to perform the daily puja.
Bhashyam Swamiji and the two others produced the smartphone allegedly belonging to Bhattar before the district administration and police officers, saying it had appropriate clippings and apps and disciplinary action must be initiated against him.
Investigations are on into the assault complaint. Mandya SP G Radhika told that she had received complaints from both parties.
Police did find inappropriate content on the phone but unsure of its origin, have left it to the endowment department to decide whether the accused priest should be allowed to continue.
