Include ancient Indian spiritual studies into curriculum, says Dalai Lama

Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama on Sunday called upon the governments to include ancient Indian spiritual studies in curriculum in schools and colleges as he felt the modern world is suffering from ’emotional crisis’ and it needs an education model that trains minds to be peaceful and harmonious with the fellow human beings.

Alluding to religious fundamentalism that is threatening world peace, the 14th Dalai Lama said among seven billion people, one billion are non-believers and a few among the believers are confused and have turned mischievous. He said those mischievous elements can be mended by inculcating a sense of oneness in them.

“My first commitment is to promote the sense of oneness among seven billion human beings. The sense of difference has created an ’emotional crisis’ since the feeling of being a different race, different religion and different country induces the sense of anxiety and fear in minds,” he said.

The Dalai Lama was delivering a lecture hosted by Seshadripuram Group of Institutions at Palace Grounds.
