Pregnancy is a magical period in a woman’s life. Eating a balanced diet is important for all of us, but for a pregnant lady, this is of paramount importance. So, if you are pregnant, it is important that you take extra care while choosing what to eat and what not to eat. Your eating habit will have a huge impact on the growth of the baby. For example, unpasteurized milk and cheese contain harmful bacteria such as salmonella, listeria, E.coli, and cryptosporidium that may cause food poisoning which can potentially harm you and your foetus.

Pineapple can cause a risk of miscarriage or premature labor because a substance called bromelain, present in pineapples, can trigger uterine contractions in the early stages of pregnancy. Pregnant women are advised to completely avoid alcohol, as it increases the risk of miscarriage. Even a small amount can negatively impact the baby and can cause foetal alcohol syndrome, stillbirth, facial deformities and mental retardation. Undercooked or raw eggs might have organisms called salmonella bacteria and they can easily cause infections when you are pregnant and lead to vomiting, headache, fever, abdominal pain and diarrhea. There are certain foods that you must completely avoid when you are pregnant because your immunity is highly compromised and you may develop infractions that can be harmful for the unborn baby.

Raw eggs

Undercooked or raw eggs might have organisms called salmonella bacteria and this can easily cause infections when you are pregnant. It can cause vomiting, headache, fever, abdominal pain and diarrhea.

Pineapple

Pineapple can cause miscarriage or premature labor as a substance called bromelain, present in pineapples, can trigger uterine contractions in the early stages of pregnancy.

 Caffeine products

Caffeine is present in coffee, tea, chocolate, cocoa and soft drinks. High amount of caffeine in a day will increase the chances of miscarriage and low birth weight babies.

 Unpasteurized dairy products
Unpasteurized milk and cheese contain harmful bacteria such as salmonella, listeria, E.coli, and cryptosporidium that may cause food poisoning that can potentially harm you and your foetus.

Raw sprouts

Raw sprouts including clover, alfalfa, mung bean, soybean, and snowpea sprouts have high chances of containing bacteria “salmonella” which can possibly cause infections, premature birth, miscarriage, stillbirth, and infections in newborns.

Alcohol

Pregnant women are advised to completely avoid alcohol, as it increases the risk of miscarriage. Even a small amount can negatively impact and can cause fetal alcohol syndrome, stillbirth, facial deformities and mental retardation.

Papaya

A latex like substance present in raw or unripe papaya can trigger uterine contractions resulting in miscarriage. Papayas are a strict no-no when you are pregnant.

Fish

Fish like shark, swordfish, king mackerel, and tilefish have high mercury levels and must be shunned during pregnancy. Mercury is a toxin which is linked to brain damage and developmental delays in babies.
