Hunger-free city program served food to patients found with rat tail!!

Parts of dead rat have been found in the food distributed to patients at the Medical College Hospital as part of the social justice department hunger-free city program. The canteen has been closed after the incident was reported.

The tail of a rat was found in the amaranth leaves curry served along with the lunch to Kunjibeevi at 2 pm. Several others too found remains of a rat in their food. By the time it was noticed, about 1,200 people had already had their food.

Food safety officials reached the hospital and took samples of the food.

DYFI and Youth Congress workers led a procession to the hospital, forcing those distributing the food flee. The protesters dispersed when Medical College principal Dr. VR Rajendran assured them that action would be taken against those responsible and the canteen would be closed.

DYFI workers wanted the food distribution to be resumed soon. They left the hospital only after the principal gave a written assurance that an alternative setup to distribute food would be initiated soon.

The social justice department appoints contractors after seeking quotations to distribute food. The existing party was also appointed in this way.

There were complaints against him earlier too and he had managed to retain his contract through a court order. The contract is to provide food to 1,500 people.

Dr. Rajendran said that measures would be taken to ensure that lunch distribution won’t be affected.
