AAP nominee list for the Rajya Sabha Elections finalized

For the upcoming elections of the Rajya Sabha, the AAP had already selected and finalized the list of the candidates. Check out who all made to the list.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday finalized the names of its nominees for the Rajya Sabha elections due later this month.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manisha Sisodia announced the names at a press conference in New Delhi at afternoon.

Sisodia said Sanjay Singh, Narayan Das Gupta, and Sushil Gupta would be the party’s nominees for Rajya Sabha elections to be held on January 16.

While Sanjay Singh is a senior party leader, ND Gupta is a city-based chartered accountant and Sushil Gupta is a businessman.

The names were finalized by the party’s Political Affairs Committee (PAC).

The names of AAP leaders like Ashutosh, Atishi (Marlena), Pankaj Gupta, Meera Sanyal, Ashish Khetan and Raghav Chadha had also been doing the rounds for the nominations.

The name of senior leader Kumar Vishwas was also doing the rounds but reports said, his name was not even discussed at the PAC meeting.

Amid demands by some Rajasthan leaders that Vishwas be made to fight the Ajmer Lok Sabha by-poll, the Vishwas camp was believed to have stated that it was in favor of the leader contesting Rajya Sabha polls.

Gujarat Patidar agitation leader Hardik Patel too had given a curious twist to the issue by publicly batting for disgruntled AAP founder Kumar Vishwas’s candidature, saying he was best suited to take on “fake nationalists”.

“If there is someone who can silence the fake nationalists in Parliament, then it is Kumar Vishwas. But wonder who in the party is so insecure of his standing that he is hell-bent on destroying the party,” Patel tweeted.

Earlier, the party had contacted around 18 eminent personalities from different walks of life including former RBI governor Raghuram Rajan, former union minister Arun Shourie, ex-Chief Justice of India TS Thakur and names from the world of cinema.

“But they are hesitant due to the political atmosphere in the country. They fear vindictive action by the Centre upon associating with the AAP,” an AAP functionary had told PTI.

Elections to three Rajya Sabha seats from Delhi would be held on January 16. The AAP, which enjoys a brute majority in the 70-member Delhi Assembly, is set to win all three seats.

The last date to file nominations for the three Rajya Sabha seats is January 5.
