A pregnant woman, forced to stand in a moving bus, fell and died

The accident took place on Friday when eight-month pregnant Nadisha, 34, wife of Vattakayam Taha of Erattupetta, Kerala fell off the bus. She was rushed to a hospital with serious injuries.

She gave birth to a baby boy in the hospital. She was undergoing treatment but succumbed to injures Wednesday.

Nadisha was returning from a visit to the Akshaya Kendra at Theekoyi. She didn’t get a seat on the bus and was standing near the front door. When the bus took a turn, she was thrown out of the vehicle. It is alleged that the vehicle’s door was not closed at that time.

She suffered serious injuries to her head and was put on ventilator. She has two more children — Hana Fatima and Haya Fatima.

The driver of the bus, Yadu Krishnan, 29, a Poonjar native, has been booked for unintentional homicide.

Seats are reserved for pregnant women in private and KSRTC buses. The Kerala Motor Vehicles Act was amended to set aside a seat for pregnant woman on the orders of the human rights commission.
