LOOK OUT! New chocolate-colored notes to hit the streets soon

After the introduction of the new Rs. 2000 and Rs. 500 notes in India, these new bills will make its entrance into the Indian economy.

After the big denominations, now it’s time for Rs 10 to get a new makeover. Yes! According to reports, the Reserve Bank of India is all set to issue new Rs 10 note with chocolate brown color as the base. Meanwhile, the new 10 rupee note will bear the picture of the ‘Konark Sun Temple’ and the RBI has already printed 1 billion pieces of the new note.

According to people familiar with the matter told Money Control, the design was approved by the government last week. The change in design in the old Rs 10 note was last made in 2005. The move to reintroduce lower denomination notes in a new design comes after the government’s plan to get rid of counterfeiting. The RBI had undertaken a slew of measures to move towards a less-cash economy.

In August last year, Centre introduced new Rs 200 and Rs 50 notes in the Mahatma Gandhi series. However, on November 8, 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that all Rs 500 and 1000 rupee notes would cease to become legal tender. After that, RBI has replaced these with the new Rs 2000 notes and redesigned Rs 500 notes.

RBI has printed 16.96 billion pieces of Rs 500 notes and 3.6 billion pieces of Rs 2,000 notes as on December 8, according to information given by the finance ministry in Lok Sabha. The total value of such notes translates into Rs 15.79 trillion.
