According to reports, “Officials privy to the closed-door meeting said the prime minister stressed the need for further tightening country’s security apparatus, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir, the Northeast and the Naxal-affected areas.”

In this three day conference, around 250 top officers from state and central police organisations are taking part. Addressing the annual conference, home minister Rajnath Singh said that terror infrastructure in the form of training camps, launch pads and communication stations continued to exist in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK).

The home minister also said, “the neighbouring country was leaving no stone unturned to provide all help, including financial, to terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir and that youths of the state were being instigated against India”.

The DGPs and IGPs conference is an annual affair, where senior police officers of the states and Centre meet. On the directive of PM Modi, the home ministry has been organising the conference outside the national capital since it came to power in 2014. The last three conferences were held in Guwahati, Rann of Kutch and Hyderabad.
