With the assembly elections round the corner, the political parties have once again started their campaigns, this time with more fanfare.
Ahead of the Karnataka Assembly Elections 2018, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress party have launched a campaign to literally “show them off” to woo the voters. Gigantic posters, cut-outs, banners and hoardings, with party colors, could be seen at every popular location and landmark.

A national news agency mentioned gigantic “posters, banners and cut-outs of MLA NA Haris” in Shanthinagar area in central Bengaluru, Karnataka. While most of the posters and banners have been promoting the contesting candidates in the Karnataka Assembly Elections 2018, in Sahakarnagar, north Bengaluru, the campaign posters have credited the development of interior roads to area MLA and agriculture minister Krishna Byregowda, the agency report said. The posters in Sahakarnagar also mention a special thank to the minister for spending Rs 2 crore for the ongoing development in the area.
“Hoardings or posters take up space, obstruct views, distract motorists, displace alternative uses for land and are a source of litter. This calls for legitimate regulation. While the BBMP has identified banner-free zones, the law seems to apply only to the BJP,” BJP spokesperson AH Anand was quoted as saying by the news agency. BBMP takes care of the the display of such posters and banners in Bengaluru.
Cost of one such hoarding or poster is Rs 500 to Rs 2,000. It could go up to Rs 30,000 to Rs 5 lakhS per life-size cut-out. The parties claim that the posters are generally funded by their supporters.
