Union budget is against Kerala’s interests, says Kodiyeri Balakrishnan

“The Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley at the Parliament on Thursday is against the interest of Kerala, and is disappointing for the unemployed youth and farmers”.CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said today.

“The BJP government has not honoured the promise made by the President in his policy declaration that special consideration would be given to women and minority class. Also there was no measures announced to save the agricultural sector that has almost come to a standstill because of the decrease in price of agrarian products. No amount was mentioned for any of the projects announced for the upliftment of the agrarian sector,” he added.

Kodiyeri also pointed out that the announcement by Union Minister Alphonse Kannanthanam that measures will be taken to tackle the declining prices of rubber and other commercial crops was not fulfilled.

“Not increasing the funds for the projects introduced by the Centre would put further financial pressure on the state governments. Also, not mentioning any measures to increase employment opportunities is a challenge to the youth,” he said.

Kodiyeri added that by not decreasing the excise duty on the price of petrol and diesel which was hiked many times by now, will result in the rise in prices of commodities further.

“The Central Government that sabotaged the ration system in Kerala in the name of food safety, has not taken any measures to control the price hike of commodities. Also, by selling of the shares of the public sectors and accumulating Rs. 1 lakh crore, the public sector industries in Kerala will witness an end,” he said.

Kodiyeri also said that strong protests need to raise against the anti-public policies of the BJP government.
