Congress MLA’s son in pub brawl; suspended from party

Congress MLA for Bengaluru’s Shantinagar NA Haris’ son Nalpad is in trouble again.

This time for allegedly calling in a gang of 15 members and brutally assaulting a man at a cafe in Bengaluru’s UB City mall.

An FIR has been registered against Bengaluru district youth Congress leader for allegedly beating up a person in a restaurant in the Karnataka capital. The FIR names youth Congress general secretary Mohammed Haris Nalapad and 10 others for the alleged violence in UB City of Bengaluru.

According to the FIR registered by the complainant Praveen Venkatachalaiah, he and his friend Vidvat (24) had gone to Farzi Cafe on Saturday night for dinner, when the incident occurred.

“My friend Vidvat had broken his leg four weeks ago and I had decided to take him out for dinner. We went to Farzi Cafe at UB City mall. At around 10 pm, Mohammed Haris Nalpad walked into the cafe. Vidvat had stretched his leg out because he couldn’t move it and Nalpad had a problem with it,” said Praveen.

The Congress later suspended Mohammed for six years, informed G Parameshwara, president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee.

The party leader has also been accused of threatening the victim.

He was appointed the general secretary of the youth Congress after emerging victorious in an election held by the Congress for the post in May 2017. He was also the executive director of the Nalapad Group of Companies.

The police are reportedly questioning the restaurant owner and other people who were there at the time of the incident.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has promised action saying that the offenders would be punished “regardless of who they are”.

The incident could embarrass the Congress party ahead of the Karnataka Assembly polls, due later this year.

While the schedule for the 224-member state assembly poll is yet to be announced, campaign for the high voltage election has already begun with leaders of both the Congress and BJP exchanging barbs at each other.

While Siddaramaiah is looking for another term as the Chief Minister of the Southern state, BJP has declared BS Yeddyurappa as its chief ministerial candidate.

Karnataka is expected to witness a triangular contest with the H D Deve Gowda-led Janata Dal (Secular) being the third dominant player.
