Soon one will be able to travel from Mumbai to Pune in just 20 minutes; Hyperloop technology arrives in India!

Soon the residents of Maharashtra will be able to travel in speed greater than that of the airplane and will be able to reach Pune in just 20 minutes! It’s true and it is not science fiction.

A US-based firm developing a near-supersonic mode of ground passenger travel on Sunday signed an ‘intent agreement’ with Maharashtra to build a transport system between Mumbai and Pune which aims to bring down travel time between the two cities to 20 minutes from three hours.

The information regarding it was revealed by Hyperloop One’s (VHO’s) chairman Richard Branson who was in Mumbai to take part in Magnetic Maharashtra summit. He said that the route of it will go through the proposed Navi Mumbai International Airport. Though he was not able to comment on an exact fare regarding the travel he suggested that it might be closer to airfares.

“The Hyperloop will reduce accidents. Teams are working to study the feasibility of the route,” Branson said.

The initial feasibility study will be completed within six months and the construction of text track is expected to start in 2019 and completed by 2021. It is expected that if the tests are proved successful then the entire track connecting Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Pune will be constructed within four years.

Thew estimated budget for the project is 20,000 crore. The company will look into the feasibility of the route to analyse how this project can be a successful one.

VHO CEO Rob Lloyd said, “We have always believed that India would be a tremendous market for the hyperloop. The Pune-Mumbai route is one of the strongest economic cases we have seen to date.”

The deal was signed in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Devendra Fadnavis.
