Petition seeking Investigation on Yogi Adityanath rejected by Allahabad High Court

A petition seeking re-investigation into the alleged role of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Aditya Nath in the 2007 Gorakhpur riots has been rejected by the Allahabad High court. The petitioner wanted CBI to investigate the case.

The case dates back to an incident took place in 2007 when a riot broke out between two communities killing a Hindu man.

Yogi Adityanath is believed to have asked to take’revenge’ for the death of that man according to the FIR, which was registered by the police only after the Allahabad High Court’s intervention.

It is also alleged that he made that speech despite the curfew being in the place, the FIR said. But the case oscillated between Supreme Court and the High court regarding the FIR filed. So the request to prosecute was not completed owing to the slow pace of the case.

CB-CID inspector Chandra Bhushan Upadhyaya who was the one who investigated the case was quoted saying to a leading daily that he as ready to file charge sheet as early as in 2015 under IPC 153-A.
