This Union minister becomes the first Cabinet minister to have his own mobile app

Union Science and Environment Minister Harsh Vardhan became the first cabinet minister after Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to have his personalised mobile application (app) that would aid his voters to connect with him.

Once projected as BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate in Delhi, Vardhan was accommodated in the central government after the saffron party under his leadership failed to get a majority in Delhi assembly 2013 and two years later received a drubbing at the hand of AAP that almost routed the Opposition from the 70-member assembly with a victory margin of 67-3.

With a year to go for the General Election and uncertainty hanging on the fate of 20 AAP legislators, who had been disqualified by the Election Commission, the veteran leader is not letting any opportunity go to regain his foothold in the national capital.

His personalised app adds to that effort as it carries links to connect with his constituency and voters. The voters can not only use it to air their grievances to the minister through video messages but also alert the minister about the instances of corruption in public life. There is also a provision to live stream his election rallies.

Vardhan said before its launch the app was beta tested among 20,000 people before launch. “I have set up a redress system through which I can take care of people’s issues and concerns,” he said.
