Nirav Modi goes up in flames this Holi celebration

How are you celebrating this Holi celebration? With dancing and sweets and colors?

Check out how Mumbai celebrated this year’s Holi.

Till recently, named by Forbes as the richest jeweller to emerge out of India and a favourite of Hollywood divas, Nirav Modi’s fall has been spectacular.

Once the scale and sheer brazenness of the now $ 2-billion Punjab and National Bank scam (Rs 12600-crore) emerged, there was no escaping for Nirav.

Now, he is going to go up in flames. Or at least his effigy is.

As part of Holika Dahan ritual, the residents of the BDD Chawl in Worli area, have erected a 58-feet effigy that they will burn down.

BDD Chawl interestingly is also home to be about 3000 police families.

Pratik Kale, secretary of the society, told an Indian newspaper: “Our society always comes up with new themes each year based on the happenings in that particular year.

This year, Nirav Modi has been making news for all the wrong reasons. At a time when people like us are working so honestly, those like Modi are looting the country in all wrong ways. We want to symbolically put an end to such tendencies.”

“First, we planned to take up the issue of sexual harassment. But after the Nirav Modi scam broke out, we thought that the issue was more recent and needs to be taken up,” he went on to add.

15 youngsters worked for 15 days to raise the effigy, Kale told the paper. Holika Dahan, for those who are hearing of it for the first time, signifies the victory of good over evil.
