Shopian attacked; army defends the borders against terrorists

Every army has to stay alert and be focused to keep the terrorists out and foil their destructive plans. So has the Indian army last night.

Militants attacked an army camp on Sunday evening in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district, an Indian news agency reported. A joint mobile vehicle check post was fired upon by militants at around 8 pm, near Pohan in Shopian, the report. In retaliatory fire, a militant was gunned down by army personnel.

The militant was identified as one Shahid Ahmad Dar and a weapon was also recovered from him, the Indian Army said in a statement. Besides the militant, bodies of three other people who were killed in the gunfire were also found. The Army said that the three people killed were over ground workers/accomplices in the car, who were accompanying the terrorists.

“Police has reached the spot and started legal formalities,” the statement added.

Earlier today, The Indian and Pakistani forces traded heavy fire on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district late on Saturday, Defence Ministry sources said on Sunday.

“Pakistan Army resorted to heavy unprovoked shelling and firing in Balakote sector. “They used small arms, automatics, and mortars to target Defence and civilian facilities. Our positions retaliated effectively.

“Firing exchanges continued for nearly two hours. No casualty or damage was reported on our side,” the source said. As a precautionary measure, authorities in Poonch and Rajouri districts have shut down all schools close to the LoC till Monday.

While the army confirmed that the three slain persons were OGWs of militants, the police are yet to confirm their exact identity.

Locals, however, claimed that the three slain persons were civilians without any militant connections
