Biplab Kumar Deb to be the first BJP chief minister in Tripura

BJP Tripura state president Biplab Kumar Deb will be the Chief Minister of Tripura, announced Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in a Press Conference held on Tuesday.

Biplab Kumar Deb said that Jishnu Deb Burman will work with him as the Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura.Biplab Kumar Deb a former Rashtriya Swayam Sewak Volunteer worked as a Gym instructor before entering politics.

Deb, Tripura state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was the frontrunner for the post of Tripura CM since the declaration of the results of the state Assembly elections. He contested from Banamalipur constituency.

In the recent election held in Tripura, a combined might of BJP-IPFT demolished CPIM which ruled the state for more than two decades. Manik Sarkar-led Left Front though accumulated a 45 percent vote share, just 5% lower than that of BJP alliance, could only win 16 from the 50 seats which it earlier won. BJP-IPFT won 43 seats.

Of this 43 seats, 35 was won by BJP alone, which was 4 seats more than the halfway mark whereas IPFT won 8 seats. The alliance also swept the 20 seats allocated for the tribals.
