WHY TOYOTA YARIS IS PRICED HIGHER THAN ITS COMPETITION ?

Despite the recent craze among car lovers for Compact SUVs, Sedans in C segment hasn’t lost all its charm. Honda City, Verna and Ciaz continues to be the crowds favourite and with Toyota launching its new offering ‘Yaris’ into the mix, the segment is getting a bit more crowded. But as Toyota often does, it is priced slightly above the competition. Does the car justify this price tag?

The base model of Yaris starts at 8.75 lakhs( ex-showroom, Delhi) which is higher than Ciaz and Verna where the petrol base model has priced around 7.8 lakhs. Yaris is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces 106 bhp of maximum power and 140 nm of peak torque. You can have them either mated to 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7 step CVT. While this may not be the car for people who wish to have fun with their car, like a Hyundai Verna, Yaris is a steady performer and a perfect family car. But then why the increased price tag? It is simply because Yaris offers more features at even the base model that surprised many car makers.

For starters, Yaris is throwing in seven airbags along with ABS and EBD even in the base model. Yes, seven airbags! It is good to see that a car maker has put safety in the forefront even if there is a price to pay for it. Yaris also did not keep keyless entry as a premium feature constraining it only to the higher spec model. You can go keyless from the base model itself. Also handy are the features like projector headlamps, a basic music system, all offered from the base variant. Go one step further to the G variant and it has all the gizmos you will need. There is a chance of a trend of most people settling to the J G variants of Yaris and one cannot fault them for thinking so.

Features like IR cut and Acoustic and Vibration control glasses are not often projected as a feature but offers great comfort and ensures a quieter cabin. Yaris looks all set to have its own space in the C segment and will give the veterans in the segment a run for their money.
