Majestic, yet lesser known tourist spot of Kerala- Josegiri

Josegiri is a small Village/hamlet in Taliparamba Block in Kannur District of Kerala State.

But what most people don’t know is, it is a trekkers’ heaven. The mountain range is surrounded by 3 hills — Kottathalachi, Olakettivana and Thirunettikallu.

Josegiri, with its misty valleys and scenic surroundings, is a picturesque spot that fulfils one’s quest for beauty. An ideal place for group camping.

And not to forget the lush greenery, misty mountain breeze and the gurgling rivulets make it a trekkers’ paradise.

Not just trekking, but those looking for an adventurous time too can have their fun in this small paradise. The nearby River Tejaswini offers the visitors a chance to try their hand at river rafting.

Not to mention the off-road driving up a steep hill and the deep gorges at turns are exhilarating. There are some caves too where you can spend some time in.

Standing at 3000 feet above sea level, Josegiri touches the hearts of nature lovers, bringing out the photographer in you with its undulating hills, green meadows, mystical pine forest, mellowed mountain streams and a small waterfall.

What attracts people to Josegiri is its cool air; the ideal time to visit will be early morning or 3 PM in the evening. A farmhouse in Pukayoonni offers an abode for the travellers.

But it is saddening to know that this beautiful land in God’s own country is facing threats from land encroachment mafia. This has also resulted in pollution. It has started to affect environment due to the accumulation of plastic waste in the forest.

One can reach Josegiri via Thalassery-Alakode-Udayagiri route. KSRTC buses have services up to Udayagiri from Kannur town.
