Naxals killed in encounter with forces

In yet another encounter, Naxals were gunned down by the forces. 2 of the Naxals had a price tag on their heads.

In an encounter that took place in Bolangir, Odisha on Saturday night, 2 Naxals with bounty price on their heads were killed.

The Naxals were identified as Sanjib, a divisional committee member of the CPI ( Maoist), who carried a reward of Rs 5 lakh; and Rakesh, an area commander of Bolangir-Bargarh-Mahasamund Division, carrying a reward of Rs 4 lakh. An AK47 rifle, Insas rifle, and ammunition were seized from the spot.

According to the reports, security forces, special operation group and district voluntary force under the guidance of Bolangir SP K Siba Subramani, raided a house near Dudkamal village where the left wing extremists were camping.

About 10-12 extremists were present when the police raided. The extremists fled to the nearby forests after opening fire.

Sanjib and Rakesh were killed. Police carried the bodies to Belpada police station. 

Though some Naxals managed to escape, the operation was a success said the SP.  

Odisha DGP RP Sharma said that the encounter was a  major success for Odisha police as the operation was executed meticulously.

Meanwhile, in a different district, 4 Naxals were killed. The Special Operation Group (SOG) personnel killed four Naxals in Kandhamal district and recovered one AK 47 along with other arms and ammunition, according to official sources.

DGP RP Sharma said that 7 Maoists were killed last year’s operations, and that special plans were being prepared for similar operations in inaccessible areas 

Such operations boost the morale of the police force and dealt a blow to the left wing extremists, he said.
