This Colombian is Celebrating his First Ramadan and his Words are Inspiring

We live at a time where Islam is often painted as a religion of terror. Doctrines of extremism that twists Islamic verses do exist, but majority of the Muslims in this world are peace loving and places like UAE are amongst the best in the world to live. The words of a Colombian, Luis Carreno, who recently converted to Islam and celebrating his first Ramadan is a testimony to this fact.

Luis Carreno, 36 years old is a Brazilian by birth. He embraced Islam at the Islamic Information Centre, Satwa and is currently working as a Ju jitsu black belt coach for UAE Armed forces in Dubai. He says interacting with the Muslims after coming to UAE has made a sea of change in his character. The most dramatic change though, came in January 2018 when he decided to give up christianity and embrace Islam. So on May 2018 he is celebrating his first Ramadan as a practicing muslim.

Luis Carreno’s family lives in Colombia and although they havent converted, they respect Islam and are thankful for the good changes in Luis. His fiance also embraced Islam and along with him is looking forward for their first Ramzan. He said ” I think the first few fasts may be a bit of a challenge not so much because of the food but because is very hot and I may crave water. But I know Allah will guide me and strengthen me so that I can fulfill my duty as a Muslim. ‘

He said back in Colombia he knew nothing about Islam and it was only after coming to UAE that he started reading up and researching about Islam. He received a copy of Holy Quran in the first week of his landing on UAE. He says it was an eye opener for him. ” it made a lot of sense and completely changed my opinion about the religion. I have always liked the concept of the oneness of God, one creator and the practicality and spiritualty I found in learning about Islam has left me awestruck. “said Luis.

We hope everyone celebrating this Ramadan has an equally uplifting experience as Luis.
