Srilankan cricketer De Silva’s father shot dead;he cancels West Indies tour

Srilankan cricketer Dhananjaya De Silva’s father had been gunned down by unidentified gunmen on the eve of the National Team’s departure to the West Indies on Friday, police said.De Silva’s father was gunned down in Mount Lavinia, municipality of South Colombo. He was dead on arrival to the hospital and his two aides suffered serious injuries at this gunshot incident.

De Silva’s father had been a local politician and the Police investigation to his murder is undergoing.No arrests have been made so far. On the wake of this tragic incident, 26-year-old Dhananjaya De Silva had withdrawn from the West Indies Tour that involved 3 matches, the officials told.

Dhananjaya has played 13 matches and made a come back during the Delhi Test match against India last year. His unbeaten hundred in the second innings had helped Srilanka save the game and kept the series defeat down to 0-1 scoreline. Keeping up that form in the Bangladesh series, he scored 100 in the Chittagong Test.
