Ramadan Recipe- Malabar Special Avil Milk

Avil milk/Avil shake is a healthy an refreshing street shake. This is very popular in Malabar areas of Kerala though this delicious drink is very common now in all parts of the state. Avil milk is made of avil/rice flakes, banana and milk.

INGREDIENTS

  • Chilled milk-1 glass(boiled and chilled )
  • Avil/Rice flakes-5 tablespoon
  • Small banana/poovan pazham-2
  • Peanuts-1.5 tablespoon
  • Sugar-2 tablespoon
  • Cherry (glazed) – 1, to decorate
  • Horlicks/Boost-1 tablespoon
  • Ice cubes-2

HOW TO PREPARE

  • Crush or blend the chilled milk and set aside.
  • Fry the peanuts and set aside.
  • Dry roast avil until crispy and easily breakable when you hold it.Set aside.
  • Take two serving glasses and set aside.
  • Mash bananas in each glass using the back of a ladle.Add ice cubes to this.
  • Add one tablespoon of roasted avil to each glass.
  • Pour the crushed chilled milk to this.
  • Add roasted peanuts over it.Now add rice flakes again to each glass.
  • Sprinkle horlicks in between.
  • Repeat this process until it almost reaches to the top of the glass.
  • Now,mix it well using a spoon.Sprinkle horlicks on the top of it.
  • Garnish with roasted peanuts or cashew nuts.Top it with a cherry.
