Ramadan Special Snack: Potato Chops

They are delicious patties that make a great appetizer. Although, traditionally made with beef they can be made with any kind of minced meat like chicken or lamb. Can be served plain with some hot tomato sauce or put in on a bun to make a good sandwich.

Ingredients
Serves: 6

  • 250 gms Boiled Minced meat
  • 1 Onion chopped fine
  • 3 Garlic cloves finely chopped
  • 2 Green Chillies
  • 1 teaspoon Garam masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon Chilli Powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Tumeric Powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Pepper
  • 1/4 cup Chopped Corriander leaves
  • 2-3 Boiled Potatoes
  • 2 Eggs beaten
  • 1/2 cup Semolina/ Rawa
  • 2 tablespoons For cooking the minced meat
  • Oil As required for frying

Directions

In a pan heat the oil. Add the onions, garlic and green chillies and fry. Then add the garam masala, chilli powder, turmeric powder and mix well. Add the ground meat mix well. Add pepper and salt to taste. Finally put in the chopped corriander leaves. Let this filling cool. Skin and mash the boiled potatoes. Put in salt and form into 3 inch balls.

When the balls are all done. Take each one flatten and put in 1 tablespoon of the filling. Pull up all the edges so as to seal the filling in completely. Flatten and shape them into patties.
Heat oil in a frying pan. Dip the patties in the beaten egg and then coat with the semolina. Put into the pan and shallow fry on both sides till lightly golden brown. Serve hot with tomato sauce or put it in the bread for a sandwich.
