What’s happening in Jammu Kashmir on Eid Day?

And on this glorious day, as the Holy Month of Ramadan come to an end and the Muslim community is celebrating Eid, Jammu Kashmir is once again embroiled with firing & stone pelting ( not that it stopped during the Ramadan).

IN SRINAGAR

Less than 24 hours after journalist Shujaat Bukhari and his two personal security officers were gunned down in Lal Chowk area in the heart of Srinagar, motorcycle-borne terrorists struck again in the city. Three young men opened fire on a police checkpoint near SMHS hospital on Friday afternoon, barely 5km from Lal Chowk, injuring two cops and two civilians.

Police sources said the three fired indiscriminately, critically injuring head constable Habibullah. A cobbler on the road was also injured.

Elsewhere, a 17-year-old youth, Viqas Ahmad Rather, was killed and two other civilians injured after security forces allegedly opened fire at stone-pelters in Pulwama.

IN ANANTNAG

Massive stone pelting is going on at Janglaat Mandi Anantnag in Jammu and Kashmir. Stone pelting and clashes between youth and security forces started before Eid prayers.

According to reports, security forces resorted to tear smoke shells. The situation turned more violent after Eid prayers were over.

The situation turned volatile a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with Home Minister Rajnath Singh on the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and to review the suspension of operations during the holy month of Ramzan.

The valley has witnessed the killings of over 55 militants and the deaths of 27 locals this year.

The situation in Kashmir is considered to be turbulent as nearly 80 incidents of violence occurred there in the last four months. Civilians were often seen thronging to encounter sites to stage protests with the intention of giving the militants an opportunity to escape.

IN ARNIA

Pakistan has reportedly violated ceasefire on Eid day in the Arnia sector of Jammu and Kashmir.

The ceasefire violation comes days after four Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were killed by Pakistani Rangers in Samba district.
