4 earthqaukes in 2 days; 25 injured in the latest

In the latest earthquake that struck the nation, at least 25 people were injured. This comes after 2 consecutive days of earthquakes.

According to the Iranian media reports, at least 25 have been injured in the 5.8 magnitude earthquake that took place in southern Iran on Monday. This occurs a day after nearly 290 were injured in the earthquake that took place in western Iran. The injured have been taken to the hospitals in Kerman city.

Rescue teams have been sent to 40 affected villages, Kerman province Red Crescent spokesman Hadi Soltani told a student news agency.

The US Geological Survey put the magnitude of the quake at 5.5, with its epicenter 23 miles (37 km) east of Kerman city. It said it was very shallow, at a depth of only 6.2 miles (10 km), which would have amplified its effect.

The previous earthquake took place on Sunday, injuring at least 290 in the 5.9 magnitude earthquake, hours after two quakes struck Hormozgan province in the south.

Media reported that the two earlier earthquakes, with magnitudes of 4.7 and 5.7, had damaged buildings in a few villages without causing casualties.

Iran is crisscrossed by major geological fault lines and has suffered several devastating earthquakes in recent years.
