According to media reports, the ice Shivling at the Amarnath cave in Jammu and Kashmir has "completely melted".

According to media reports, the ice Shivling at the Amarnath cave in Jammu and Kashmir has “completely melted”. The report mentions that the shivling melted completely on Sunday evening. The Indian Express, in its report, quoted officials saying that the iced stalagmite, which is known as ‘Mata Parvati’ among the pilgrims, is still intact.

The Amarnath Yatra, which is underway, sees around 5,000 pilgrims visit the Amarnath gufa or cave everyday. Camp Director Sachin Jamwal was quoted as saying that even as the shivling has melted, yatris will continue to flock to the cave because even the cave has very high religious importance among the pilgrims.

Coinciding with the Shravan Purnima festival, the Amarnath Yatra will end on August 26.

However, pilgrims showed disappointment as many did not get to pay obeisance at the cave, according to the officials. More than 2 lakh yatris or pilgrims visited the Amarnath cave this year, in the 26 days of the pilgrimage, which is held every year. The Amarnath Yatra had begun on June 28 this year and will end on August 26.
