A school teacher was attacked with acid by an unknown man for reasons unknown to the family and police.

An unidentified man threw acid on the face of a schoolteacher while she was giving tuitions at Chintal near Jeedimetla, Telangana on Thursday evening. She suffered burns on her face and is likely to be shifted to LV Prasad Eye Institute.

DCP, Balanagar, Sai Sekhar said Surya Kumari, 45, a teacher at Siddhartha School, was giving tuitions at premises at Chintal after school hours. Around 6.30 pm, a man sent a message through someone to Surya Kumari saying he wants to meet her. When she came out thinking it could be a parent, she found a man covering his face with a handkerchief, the DCP said.

Cops suspect family dispute to be motive

Sai Sekhar told TOI, “The man threw acid at Kumari and she suffered burns on her face. As of now, we do not know the intensity of the burns. After the attack, the victim rushed back into the premises. where she was taking classes. After nearly 15 minutes, she was shifted to a local hospital, which informed us about the acid attack.’’ Around 8 pm, police came to know about the incident.

At the time of the incident, the victim’s daughter and another teacher were at the premises taking classes for nearly 45 students. Based on preliminary inquiry, police suspect family disputes could be the motive behind the acid attack on the teacher, a resident of Padmarao Nagar. However, police officials were unwilling to disclose what exactly was the dispute, claiming investigation was underway. Police have decided to shift her to LV Prasad Eye Institute, Banjara Hills.
