TODAY, a stranger forcibly entered a former Chief Minister’s home and ransacked the place. He was shot dead.
Security personnel shot dead an unarmed intruder driving an SUV, who rammed his vehicle into the gate of the Bhatindi residence of former chief minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah in Jammu Saturday morning.
Inspector general of police (IGP) Jammu zone, SDS Jamwal said that documents recovered from the slain intruder revealed his identity as Mufad Shah of Ghoulath in Poonch district. The incident took place around 9:30 am.
“It was a forced entry by the intruder who first gate-crashed a Mahindra XUV at the Bhatindi residence of former chief minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah. He then tried to snatch weapon of a CRPF personnel. He also had a scuffle in the lobby area of the house,” he said.
“He then entered the lobby and started vandalizing property after which he was shot dead,” he said.
No member of the Abdullah family was in the house at the time of the incident.

Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah along with their families stay at the high security residence in Bhatindi when they come to Jammu.
Recoveries from slain intruder’s vehicle included some prescriptions of psychotropic drugs that indicate that he may have been mentally ill or a drug addict.
Dr. Abdullah’s son, Omar Abdullah, also a former chief minister, tweeted about the incident.
I am aware of the incident that took place at the residence my father & I share in Bhatindi, Jammu. Details are sketchy at the moment. Initial reports suggest an intruder was able to gain entry through the front door & in to the upper lobby of the house.

Jamwal said that the intruder didn’t carry any weapon with him. A massive search operation has been launched in and around the house.
The IGP did not rule out the possibility of a terror angle. But earlier in the day, Jammu’s senior superintendent of police Vivek Gupta said prima facie it didn’t appear to be a terror attack
