Mumbai Crime Branch Force detained Five for kidnapping

Five persons including a woman were arrested by the city crime branch for allegedly kidnapping a boy from Kurla (W). The woman was a close relative of the kidnapped boy and hatched the plan as she was facing a financial crisis. The police managed to rescue the minor safely.

The arrested persons have been identified as Shabina Khan, 27, Sultan Khan, 26, Jahangir Shaikh, 28, Sohail Siddiqui alias William, 33, and Gufran Shaikh, 26.

Ashutosh Dumbare, Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime, said that a minor was kidnapped from the MHADA colony in Kurla (W) on August 3. Soon after, a case of kidnapping was registered against unknown persons at the VB Nagar police station.

“On the basis of the information, we nabbed five persons involved in the case. Preliminary information revealed that Shabina was in constant touch with the accused persons. All the accused conspired together and hatched a plan to kidnap the boy to extort Rs 50 lakh from his father,” Dumbare said.

Explaining the incident, an officer said, “As per the plan, Shabina called the victim near the building on August 3 at 9 pm. Jahangir and Gufran, who were keeping a watch on the boy, forcibly kidnapped him by threatening him with a knife and took him to Sohail’s Shivaji Nagar residence in Govandi.”

The accused kept the victim at Govandi at night and shifted him to Sultan’s office the next day.
