Heavy rain in six districts in Karnataka has led to floods and landslides in the southern state. The state government has announced a Rs. 200 crore relief fund for the affected districts.

Incessant rains have caused multiple landslides in Makanur area, leading to blockage of the Kodagu-Mangalore highway in Karnataka on Friday. Rains led to a landslide in Chikkenduru near Madikeri as well. Operations to clear the road were underway.

Locals said people were confined to their houses and couldn’t move out at all. They said they hadn’t seen such heavy rains in a long time. Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy has announced a grant-in-aid of Rs 200 crore for relief work.

Residents of Kodagu, 260 km from Bengaluru, have been posting updates on the rain situation on social media. Kumaraswamy reviewed the situation in the districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chikkmagaluru, Kodagu and parts of Hassan and Uttara Kannada. Later, speaking to the media on Thursday, he said Rs 237.55 crore was available with all the district commissioners and there was no dearth of funds for relief work.
