A Number of Police Officials fined for Traffic Violations

Police Officers also have the same responsibility as others, to obey the certain rules. A number of police officials have been fined for traffic violations, such as not wearing helmets and seatbelts after Ahmedabad Police Commissioner (CP) AK Singh ordered the traffic department to be strong with the traffic Protocols. The special drive was held under the supervision of traffic DCPs.

Around 228 police officers — including police inspectors, sub-inspectors, and constables — were fined for not wearing helmets, seatbelts, using the phone while driving and violating the traffic signals. Around Rs22,800 fine was collected from the offenders. The maximum fine was recovered by the ‘L’ division of traffic police is around Rs10,800. The fine was collected from 108 cops.

“The aim of the drive was to create awareness among the police department. Even cops can be fined if they violate rules,” said Sanjay Kharat, Traffic DCP, West Zone.

The drive will continue and surprise checking will be carried all over the city to ensure that even cops are following rules. The traffic cops who have been deployed in the city have been specially told not to let go of any police officer who is violating the rules.

“We have been noticing a difference since the drive began. A majority of the officers has taken it seriously. We are planning to continue the drive,” said Kharat.
