PM Modi will introduce 5G services in India on October 1.

New Delhi: According to a tweet from the government’s National Broadband Mission today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially introduce 5G services in India on October 1.

It added that at India Mobile Congress, Asia’s largest technology expo, ‘Hon’ble PM, @narendramodi, will launch out 5G services in India, taking India’s digital transformation & connectivity to new heights.’

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and Cellular Operators Association of India jointly organise the India Mobile Congress (IMC), which bills itself as the largest telecom, media, and technology gathering in Asia (COAI).

According to Union Minister for Communications, Electronics & Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw, the government has set a target of 80% coverage of 5G telecom services in the nation in a short period of time.

Last Wednesday, Mr. Vaishnaw said the following while speaking at an industry event in the nation’s capital: ‘It should be emphasised that many nations took many years to get 40% to 50% coverage, so the 5G journey will be quite interesting. However, the Government has set a target of 80% coverage in a short period of time, and we should unquestionably reach that level in a very short period of time. This is a really ambitious pace.’

According to experts, India will tremendously gain from 5G technology. A recent assessment by a worldwide industry association representing mobile network carriers predicted that it would likely boost the Indian GDP by 36.4 trillion ($455 billion) between 2023 and 2040.
