Ministry of External Affairs resolve the visa issue faced by Odisha’s Javelin thrower Kishore Jena

Demonstrating proactive diplomatic efforts, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) swiftly resolved the visa predicament faced by Kishore Jena, a Javelin thrower from Odisha. This action came after Neeraj Chopra, the Olympic gold medalist, highlighted the issue on social media. The visa obstacle emerged as Kishore Jena prepared to represent India at the upcoming World Athletics Championships 2023 in Budapest, Hungary, scheduled from August 19 to 27.

This development unfolded in response to Neeraj Chopra’s X post, which drew the attention of Dr S Jaishankar, the Minister of External Affairs (EAM). Dr Jaishankar’s immediate response prompted the MEA officials to swiftly initiate communication with the Hungarian Embassy in New Delhi, aimed at expediting Kishore Jena’s visa processing.

The strategic intervention by the MEA produced positive outcomes. Acting upon the EAM’s directives, the Hungarian Embassy promptly granted the necessary visa, effectively clearing the path for Kishore Jena’s participation in the international sporting event. With the visa hurdle rapidly resolved, Kishore Jena’s journey to Hungary was set in motion.

Insiders revealed, “The MEA has consistently extended assistance to Indian athletes taking part in global competitions.” The MEA’s rapid response was not an isolated incident. The ministry has consistently shown its support for Indian athletes in international competitions. In recent instances, the MEA expedited visa approvals for Indian participants at events such as the World Games 2023 in Berlin, the United World Wrestling tournament in Croatia, the Commonwealth Powerlifting and Bench Press Championships in New Zealand, international chess tournaments, as well as various overseas badminton tournaments.
