Mumbai: The Cricket World Cup 2023 began on October 5 and the final will be held on November 19 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
Beginning in 1975, the ODI World Cup has reached its 13th edition. This edition of the mega cricket event witnessed several records.

ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 records:
1. Most centuries:
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma’s century against Afghanistan was his seventh in World Cup cricket, the most for any cricketer. He surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s 12-year-old record of six centuries. Rohit, who scored his first World Cup century against Bangladesh in the 2015 quarterfinals, went on to score a record-breaking five centuries in 2019.
With 1,289 runs in 22 matches at an average of 64.45, Rohit Sharma is the fifth leading run-scorer in World Cup cricket.
2. Highest total:
South Africa smashed the record for the highest team total in their opening match against Sri Lanka in Delhi. South Africa scored 428 runs batting first. The previous record belonged to Australia, who had scored 417/6 against Afghanistan at Perth in 2015.
3. Fastest century:
Aiden Markram smashed a 49-ball century against Sri Lanka, making it the fastest ton in World Cup history. Markram came in to bat at No. 4 in the 31st over and finished with 106 off 54 balls, which included 14 fours and 3 sixes. Ireland’s Kevin O’Brien held the record previously, who scored a 50-ball century against England in the 2011 edition.
4. Most centuries in a single innings:
In the same match against Sri Lanka – South Africa’s Quinton de Kock, Rassie van der Dussen and Aiden Markram became the first batting trio to score centuries in a single innings of an ODI World Cup match. This was only the fourth instance of three batters scoring centuries in an ODI innings and South Africa have achieved the feat thrice.
5. Best run chase:
Pakistan chased down a 345-run target against Sri Lanka in Hyderabad, making it the most successful run chase in ODI World Cup history. Sri Lanka had scored 344/9 batting first, the 1992 champions chased the total with 10 balls and 6 wickets to spare.
International records:
1. Most sixes in international cricket:
During his century against Afghanistan, Rohit Sharma surpassed Chris Gayle as the batter with the most number of sixes in international cricket. The West Indian power hitter finished his international career with 553 sixes. After the match against New Zealand in Dharamshala, Rohit Sharma hit 568 sixes to his credit across all three international formats.
In World Cup cricket, Rohit Sharma has hit 40 sixes and is second only to Chris Gayle, who has hit 48.
2. Most ODI runs in successful run chases:
During the match against Australia, the Virat Kohli surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most runs scored in successful ODI run chases. Tendulkar had scored 5,490 runs in 124 innings.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli has so far accumulated 5786 runs in successful run chases in 96 innings at a remarkable average of 90.40 and a strike rate of 97.16. Kohli has hit 23 hundreds and 25 half-centuries in the process.
