Assam Pair Arrested for Fatally Harming 10-Day-Old Infant

In a tragic incident, live-in partners Maksidul Islam and Mushida Khathoon, hailing from Assam, were arrested by Perumbavoor police for the murder of their 10-day-old daughter. The infant’s life was tragically cut short as the accused, discontent with impending parenthood, suffocated her to death. The grim discovery was made when the child’s lifeless body was found in a plastic bag near the Mudikkal river on October 8.

The investigation unfolded as authorities probed pregnant women in the area, leading them to the Assam woman, an employee at a plywood factory. Mushida had initially managed to evade capture by fleeing to Assam with Maksidul post the heinous crime. However, a relentless police effort eventually traced and apprehended the duo.

The backstory reveals that the couple, having divorced their respective partners, arrived in Kerala. Engaging in a prolonged live-in relationship, they reportedly planned the infant’s murder amid disputes over the pregnancy. This disturbing incident coincides with a troubling rise in criminal cases involving migrant workers in the state. Just last week, three migrant workers from Assam were allegedly killed by a fellow roommate at a timber mill in Perumbavoor.
