In Kannur on Saturday, a tragic incident unfolded as a private bus driver, K Jeejith of Manekkara near Pannyannur, lost his life after being struck by a train while attempting to flee the aftermath of a pedestrian accident. According to the police, Jeejith ran to escape the impending public outrage following the collision.
The fatal event took place at Pettipalam near Thalassery, where Jeejith’s bus had collided with a pedestrian in the evening. The impact resulted in the pedestrian becoming trapped beneath the bus, leading the driver to panic. Fearing the wrath of the public, Jeejith fled along a nearby railway track. Tragically, he failed to notice an approaching passenger train on the same track and was fatally run over, as described by a police officer.
Addressing the situation, the officer stated, “The bus driven by Jeejith had hit a pedestrian in the evening. In the mishap, the pedestrian got stuck under the bus and the driver panicked. Afraid of public outrage, he fled and ran along a railway track. Unfortunately, he didn’t notice the passenger train moving on the same track and was run over.”
Meanwhile, the injured pedestrian was promptly taken to the nearest hospital, where his condition is reported to be stable. Simultaneously, the body of Jeejith was moved to the mortuary of the General Hospital at Thalassery.
