Railways on guard for crowd surge ahead of Chhath puja following stampede in Gujarat

Trains to Bihar are being closely watched by Central Railways, as big crowds are gathering at train stations to return home for the Chhath Puja, which begins on November 17. Following a stampede that left one person dead and numerous others injured at the Surat railway station in Gujarat last week, the police are on high alert.

Five to six trains a day from Maharashtra go to Bihar, according to Central Railways Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Shivraj Manaspure. These trains are continuously watched. To manage the throng, the Railway Protection Force deploys walkie talkies, hand-held metal detectors, dog squads, body cams, and hand announcement devices.

He continued by saying that there haven’t been any stampede issues in any of the five Central Railways regions, and that if any passengers are left behind, they are asked to board another train later.
