Woman in UP climbs mobile tower to persuade man for marriage

In Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj district, a 20-year-old woman ascended a mobile tower in a bid to declare her love and persuade a 24-year-old man to marry her, as revealed by the police on Friday. The incident drew a significant crowd near the 50-meter-high tower, leading to traffic congestion on a nearby highway. To manage the situation, the police implemented crowd control measures. Many onlookers captured the episode on their mobile phones, drawing parallels to a scene from the movie “Sholay” where Dharmendra’s character professes love on an overhead water tank.

The woman, involved in a long-term relationship with the local youth, sought to convince him and his family members to consider marriage. Circle Officer Ajay Singh Chauhan stated that initial attempts were made to persuade her to descend voluntarily. However, when she declined, a constable climbed the tower to assist her descent. The man, identified as a truck driver, was away in Nepal for a consignment delivery during the incident. The police have registered a case under IPC section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt). This peculiar incident highlights the emotional complexities that can arise in personal relationships, leading to unconventional expressions of love and commitment.
