Mumbai Airport Threat: TVM Youth Arrested by Maharashtra ATS

The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) apprehended a 23-year-old individual from Thiruvananthapuram following an email threat to detonate the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. The suspect demanded a payment of ‘US$1 million in Bitcoin’ to avert the alleged attack, as revealed by an official. The ATS initiated an investigation after Mumbai International Airport Limited received the ominous email in their feedback inbox at 11:06 am on Thursday.

The threatening email, indicating a 48-hour ultimatum and a subsequent alert within 24 hours, led to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) under sections 385 and 505 (1) (b) of the Indian Penal Code at the Sahar police station.

Concurrently, the ATS cyber cell launched a parallel probe and successfully traced the email’s origin IP address to Kerala. A team was dispatched to the southern state, resulting in the arrest of the accused, whose identity remains undisclosed. The individual is slated to be transported to Mumbai and handed over to the Sahar police for further proceedings. The FIR charges relate to inducing fear of injury for extortion and making statements with the intent to cause public fear or alarm.
