Royal Enfield launches the new Himalayan in India: Price, features

Mumbai: Leading two-wheeler brand in the country, Royal Enfield  launched its ‘all-new Himalayan’. The all-new Himalayan, also unofficially referred to as the Himalayan 450, is the successor to the first generation Royal Enfield Himalayan 411, that came out in 2016. The latest adventure motorcycle was unveiled at their flagship event – Motoverse – in Goa.

The bike is offered at a starting price of 2.69 lakh (introductory price) for Base variant and is available in a single colour – Kaza Brown. The mid variant, called Pass has been priced at 2.74 lakh and will be available in two colours – Slate Himalayan Salt and Slate Himalayan Blue. The top variant, called Peak, has been priced at 2.79 lakh for the Kamet White and 2.84 lakh for Hanle Black.

The only difference between all the variants is the colour. There are no mechanical or electronic differences between them.

The new Himalayan is powered by  a new liquid-cooled 452 cc engine. The new engine, called the Sherpa 450, comes with a four-valve head and Dual Overhead Cams (DOHC) set up. The engine  produces 39.5 bhp at 8,000 rpm and 40 Nm of peak torque at 5,500 rpm.

The engine has been paired with a six-speed gearbox . The suspension setup consists of a 43mm upside-down (USD) fork with 200mm wheel travel and a monoshock with 200mm wheel travel. Braking duties are taken care of by a 320mm disc with double piston caliper at the front and a 270mm disc with single piston caliper at the rear with switchable dual-channel ABS.

The motorcycle is capable of reaching speeds of about 150 kmph and can be has  a fuel economy figure of around 28 kmpl. It gets a 17-litre fuel tank. The wheel sizes have been retained as 21 inches front and 17 inches rear. The bike sports CEAT dual sport tyres that have been specially developed for it.

The new Himalayan gets two ride modes – Performance and Eco.he new Himalayan also gets an industry-first full-map navigation, powered by Google Maps, which can be projected on the four-inch, circular TFT instrument console via the Royal Enfield app connected through a smartphone.
