Residents in the Philippine capital, Manila, evacuated buildings on Tuesday in response to a magnitude 5.9 earthquake off Luzon, as reported by the state seismology agency and images circulated on social media.
The Philippine seismology agency, via a social media platform, conveyed that while it did not anticipate significant damage, there was a potential for aftershocks. The earthquake was recorded at a magnitude of 5.9, with a depth of 79 kilometers (49.09 miles).
Photographs shared by local media on the same social media platform depicted government employees leaving various buildings, including the senate, presidential palace, and justice ministry. Students were also observed evacuating universities.
Initially, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre reported the quake at magnitude 6.2 but later revised it to 6.0.
