Military to employ artificial intelligence for monitoring enemy deployments

The Indian Army is currently incorporating domestically developed software that utilizes artificial intelligence (AI) to profile enemy equipment, improving the extraction of usable information from intelligence inputs. The AI-based software collects electronic signatures of equipment across borders, enabling the Army to determine their movements in the future. Additionally, predictive analysis AI software has been developed for faster decision-making and sifting through bulk intelligence inputs, grading them based on source credibility. The electronic signatures function similarly to fingerprints, allowing the Army to track enemy formations by registering the electronic signature of arms, equipment, and vehicles. The data, collected by satellites and radars, contributes to analysis and predictions, enhancing the Army’s operational readiness, intelligence gathering, and tactical response. The integration of this software aims to address the technology gap in India’s defense strategy and is a collaborative effort with the Ministry of Electronics and Telecommunication (MeitY), aligning with national initiatives like Digital India and Make in India. The move comes amid ongoing tension along India’s border with China since May 2020.
