PM Narendra Modi inaugurates Surat Diamond Bourse and new terminal at Surat Airport

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB) in DREAM City and the new terminal building of Surat airport in Gujarat on Sunday. The SDB, now the world’s largest office, surpassed the US Pentagon, becoming the biggest center for international diamond and jewelry business. Situated at Khajod village near Surat, the SDB building is part of the Diamond Research and Mercantile (DREAM) City, covering over 67 lakh square feet. The facility includes a state-of-the-art ‘Customs Clearance House,’ a jewelry mall for retail business, safe vaults, and international banking services.

The Surat Diamond Bourse aims to become a global hub for trading both rough and polished diamonds and jewelry. Offices at the bourse were auctioned, attracting diamond traders who previously operated from Mumbai. Spanning 35.54 acres inside DREAM City, the ground-plus-15-storey building features nine towers with offices ranging from 300 sq ft to 1.15 lakh sq ft and two basements. It boasts 131 lifts, with a four-minute travel time from the security gate to offices. Biometric scanning secures entry gates, and the facility is equipped with over 4,000 CCTV cameras.
