Marvel cuts 15 jobs in various departments

Marvel made a significant move on Monday by laying off 15 employees across various departments. This decision follows Disney CEO Bob Iger’s announcement of a reduction in output, signaling a shift in the company’s strategy. While no further layoffs are expected at the moment, Marvel is restructuring its slate after experiencing a surge in production.

The renowned studio, famous for its Avengers superhero films, is scaling back its releases. This year, it is set to launch only one movie, “Deadpool and Wolverine,” starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, scheduled for release in July. Additionally, Marvel plans to premiere just two live-action shows in 2024. Iger’s recent remarks suggested a strategic shift towards focusing on producing high-quality content, following underperforming projects like “Madame Web.”

Iger emphasized the importance of addressing issues within the studio’s projects. This involved making tough decisions such as discontinuing projects deemed unfit and replacing them with new ones that show greater promise and confidence. Over the past few years, Marvel has gradually adjusted its output, releasing fewer films and TV shows each year, reflecting a deliberate move towards quality over quantity.
