Delhi Court rejects Manish Sisodia’s second bail plea in liquor policy case

A Delhi court dealt another blow to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia on April 30, rejecting his bail plea in a case concerning money laundering linked to the excise policy. This marks the second time his bail application has been dismissed in cases brought forth by both the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Sisodia, who previously served as Delhi’s deputy chief minister, remains in judicial custody at Tihar Jail due to these ongoing legal battles.

The court’s decision followed its earlier reservation of the verdict on April 20, which came after careful consideration of Sisodia’s applications. Despite his attempts to secure interim bail for campaigning during the Lok Sabha elections, his counsel informed the court that the plea had become redundant as the regular bail petition was already under review.

Sisodia’s legal troubles began with his arrest by the CBI on February 26, 2023, over allegations tied to the purported “scam.” Subsequently, he resigned from his position in the Delhi cabinet on February 28. The Enforcement Directorate also apprehended him on March 9, 2023, in connection with a money laundering case stemming from the CBI’s FIR. Despite efforts, the Supreme Court recently dismissed Sisodia’s curative petition challenging its earlier decision to deny him bail, emphasizing the absence of grounds to reconsider previous rulings.
