Scholar jumps to death in University of Hyderabad

A 45-year-old research scholar of Hyderabad Central University (HCU) committed suicide by jumping from a balcony of the 14th floor of apartment complex Aparna Venture at Chandanagar on Saturday afternoon. Police said that the research scholar resorted to the extreme step due to health issues.

Around 3 pm, Vishal Tandon, who had been residing on the 14th floor of the 18-storied building, sent an email to his sister, Geethika, about his decision to end his life. He locked his flat door from outside and jumped from a balcony in the common area, Chandanagar police said.

“Before jumping from there, Vishal sent an email to his sister informing her that ked him to reach Aparna Venture. However, by the time Vishal’s friend reached the location, he was already dead.

For the past one month, Vishal had been staying alone in the flat as his mother moved to Mumbai, where Geethika resides.

Police said that they were he was about to commit suicide due to health problems and his failure to secure a job,” Chandanagar sub-inspector Saidulu said.

According to police, Vishal left the door keys in the shoe rack, which was outside his flat, and reached the common balcony and jumped. After seeing the email, Geethika alerted Vishal’s friend, who resides nearby. She forwarded the mail and as waiting for his family members to arrive in the city to gather more details.

Vishal was doing a research on gender studies at UoH for the last two years. Though his family hails from Punjab, he was in Chennai for a long time before moving to Hyderabad.

On knowing about the incident, police reached the crime scene and, after verifying all facts, ruled out any foul play and declared it as a case of suicide, based on the email sent by Vishal.
