Dubai introduces free bus service to make up for partial metro closure

Commuters affected by the partial closure of Dubai Metro Red Line between Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT) and Ibn Battuta stations from July 28 to October 15 can take free shuttle buses provided by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

The RTA’s Public Transport Agency announced on Monday that the free circular bus route will cover the partial metro closure period, which will be on weekends only (Fridays and Saturdays) over a period of 10 weeks.

“The closure is required to proceed with construction works related to Route 2020 Project,” said Mohammed Abu Baker Al Hashmi, director of planning and business development, RTA’s Public Transport Agency.

“Metro riders heading to the UAE Exchange Station are required to drop off at JLT Station, board alternative free buses deployed to continue their journey to Ibn Battuta Station, where they would drop off to retake the metro service and resume their metro ride to the UAE Exchange Station,” Al Hashmi explained.

Equally, metro commuters travelling in the direction of Al Rashidiya Station need to get off at Ibn Battuta Station, hop on free buses to JLT Station, hop off to continue their metro journey in the direction of Al Rashidiya Station.

“This service is offered to meet the needs of public transport riders in general and metro commuters in particular between the said two stations. RTA is always keen to fulfil the needs of public transport users in Dubai, and offer integrated excellent services to customers with the aim of making them happier,” Al Hashmi underlined.
