Sharjah Police to keep aerial watch on traffic

Sharjah police now to monitor traffic violations on various roads in the emirate aerially.

The Department of Traffic and Patrols of Sharjah Police has tied up with Sharjah Air Wing to carry out the traffic watch from the sky.

Major Abdurrahman Khater, director of traffic awareness department at Sharjah Police, said that the air inspection – covering various areas on the main roads of Sharjah – is aimed to review, evaluate and analyze the situation of the crowded zones during peak hours.

He explained that the surveillance focused on the five most important streets in the emirate, including Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Mleiha Road, Al Ittihad Street, Emirates Road and Al-Dhaid Street.

He pointed out that through traffic monitoring, the operations room would be informed about the violating vehicles and congestion points so that traffic patrols can quickly reach these places and ensure smooth flow of traffic.

“Police seek to enhance road safety and reduce the number of road fatalities by upgrading the traffic system and achieve objectives earmarked in the strategy of the Ministry of Interior,” he stressed.
